Camp Grass

Hi all,

Thought I'd share something a little more lighthearted than the latest on the E. Coli counts (which are going way down, I hear...hooray!). The other day Luke was swinging on the "green monster", the metal swingset that looks like it's about 20 years old which I found on Craig's List and bought for him for $30 cash. It's an oldie but goodie. It's at the back of the yard where thngs stay pretty damp and shady. So he's swinging and looking at his feet, and he says to me, "Mom, there's a bunch of grass over here like the grass at camp!" Tina and I look at each other, wondering what he's talking about. Camp grass? Then Teen figures it out...moss. It's the official grass of camp.

River water quality tests

Pete said,

Hi All,
I spoke with the guy in the Manchester health dept that has responsibility for conducting the water quality
tests and reporting them online. Their first test is scheduled for Monday with a report online for next Wednesday. I'll forward the website address if i"m successful in locating it on my first try.
I asked him to speculate on the findings, and he felt less than hopeful, as the normal pattern is for elevated
e coli readings following heavy rains. The unsafe level criteria is 88 colonies per milliliter; they take their test
at the area just above the dam, and he feels this should be representative of the river as a whole.
More news as I get it,
Pete

Y'all...I think I spoke with the same guy. I questioned him about the sediment on the bottom as well and he was optimistic saying that the first good rain should increase the river flow and scour the bottom. Not so sure about the camp location for "scouring action" though. It's a bit odd...the testing next week is an annual event not related to the floods and nobody seems at all concerned about the contaminants as they get apparently all get flushed down into the ocean.

I also contacted the VRAP program which stands for volunteer river assessment program. I didn't find out anything helpful for this issue but was impressed with the group and what they're doing...attached you will find the 05 report on the river.

Ciao

Hope there's not a repeat of it this weekend.

Open for business... ct'd

I couldn't fit all the pics in one post, so here's the rest.

Open for business

Camp is officially open after this Memorial Day weekend. There are plenty of pics on Gil's website (I'm sure you got the email), and I wanted to share some of the pics I took on Monday, Kris's birthday, with you too.

Can't wait to see y'all there!

Photos from (recent?) history

My mom recently found this photo, and I love it! It's from 1988 or so. I'm pretty sure I'm telling Aaron what Jesse's cards are, or giving him "educated suggestions" on how to play what he's got. Later on, I'll probably tell Jesse what Aaron's cards are, he'll yell at me, I'll run away giggling, and go back into the river and make handstands for 45 minutes.

Camp in Hibernation

Took some pictures of Camp right after New Years, when the snow was really sparkley. It was kinda neat to see it all nestled in, quiet, no bathing suits hanging to dry from the railings... :-)
